Big League Camp for High School

The Big League Camp I and II is for High School players (9th - 12th graders). Fundamental Baseball Skills are emphasized. The coaches personally work with players on the fundamentals; catch the ball, throw the ball, hit the ball. Work with a specific position attitude towards teaching infielders skills such as footwork and throwing mechanics. Catchers receive instruction on blocking balls, footwork, and throwing. Outfielders focus on pre-pitch movement, catching, first step quickness, routes to fly balls, and throwing mechanics. Hitting instruction includes grip, hands, stance, stride, swing, and balance. Pitchers receive instruction on pitching mechanics, grips and balance.

All BLC participants will go through a skill assessment where metrics will be collected (60 yard dash, home to 1B, Throwing Velocity, Batted Ball Exit Velocity, etc...) for each participant.  These metrics will help players understand how their skills compare to other HS, college, and pro baseball players and also prepare players on what to expect at baseball showcases and college tryouts.

Instructors: Scott Leius and his coaching staff

Strength and Agility and Arm Strengthening

The PWYBA is pleased to offer a new addition for the 2018-2019 Dome season; “Strength and Agility and Arm Strengthening”.

These HIGH INTENSITY workout sessions will be conducted at the Central Middle School Dome during “Open Dome” times early in the Dome season (November, December, and early January).  This program will be available to players in the 6th – 12th grade who sign up for the Trojan Camp (6th – 8th graders) and the Big League Camp (9th – 12th graders).  There are 17 two-hour sessions of the “Strength and Agility and Arm Strengthening” program.  The sessions will be held during regularly scheduled “Open Dome” times so the main field area will not be available during these times.

The cost for the ‘Strength and Agility and Arm Strengthening’ program will be included in the Trojan Camp and Big League Camp registration fees.  All players will need to purchase an ‘Open Dome’ pass to participate in the ‘Strength and Agility and Arm Strengthening’ program.

Mickey Leius will be the lead instructor.  Mickey played in the PWYBA House and Travel programs, the Wayzata Legion team, the Wayzata High School Varsity team and was a 4 year college letter winner at DMACC and Concordia University, St. Paul.

Hitting Clinics

The Hitting players will be split into groups and rotate in various hitting stations. Batting cages, soft toss, tees along with other tools will be used.

Players should bring their own bat, helmet, batting gloves, baseball mitt, and water bottle.  Parents should stay for the first 20 minutes of the first session.

Hitting Instructors: Brian Trygstad and Steve Haskamp

Grapefruit Leagues

The Grapefruit League will begin each week with a brief skill session.  The players will then divide into teams and rotate between hitting stations and playing a coach-pitched sandlot baseball game. The games will include some baseball instruction as game situations arise.  Players decide their own batting order, rotate defensive positions and have input on calls made in the field

Instructor: PWYBA Travel Coaches

Pitching Workshops

The PWYBA will offer small group pitching workshops (no more than 8 players per workshop) for 3rd through 8th graders. These workshops will be held at various dates and times throughout the winter to work around your players busy schedule.   Each workshop will work on different aspects of pitching (fundamentals, conditioning, pick off moves, pitch sequencing, etc...).  To view more details on the content of each workshop and to view the dates/times of each workshop please visit the following web site Elevate Your Baseball Game.   After purchasing a Pitching Workshop Package (for $100) from the PWYBA registration link at the top of this page, you will receive an email with instructions and a registration code that will allow you to sign-up for specific workshops.  Each Pitching Workshop Package consists of 3 pitching workshop sessions of your choice.

Instructor: Chip Engdahl and other former college pitchers

Pitching / Catching Clinic - One Day Only

Pitching and Catching Workshop  - Saturday, January 5th

This fundamental teaching clinic will be an excellent way to introduce your player to the basics of pitching and catching.  The Clinic will be led by PWYBA Instructors Chip Engdahl and Brian Trygstad.  They will be assisted by former Wayzata Trojan players who went on to play college baseball.

Parents are encouraged to stay and watch the clinic. Catchers should bring their own gear but there will be some equipment available.

Space is limited to 40 players.  The clinic is designed for 3rd to 8th grader players.  The clinic will be held at the Central Middle School Dome and the cost is $25.00.

Pre-Season Clinic

The Pre-Season Clinics are 4 week programs held on Saturdays at the Central Middle School Dome. This is a great clinic to prepare for the upcoming season. The players will break up into small groups and will rotate through stations; hitting, throwing/pitching, infield, and outfield.

Sandlot Leagues

The Sandlot League will begin each week with a brief skill session.  The players will then divide into teams and rotate between hitting stations and playing a coach-pitched sandlot baseball game. The games will include some baseball instruction as game situations arise.  Players decide their own batting order, rotate defensive positions and have input on calls made in the field.
