As part of our ongoing mission to offer players in the Wayzata School District a competitive and well-rounded baseball experience, we are sharing this information with our incoming 15U players.
Summer registration will be opening around January 1. We know there can sometimes be confusion on how summer baseball works for 15U players since they are entering the high school program in the spring, and the 15U season operates a little differently than previous youth seasons.
New for 2026 – Jr. Legion Option
Beginning with the 2026 season, PWYBA 15U players will also have the option to try out for Jr. Legion baseball.
Jr. Legion tryouts will take place before PWYBA’s 15U tryouts.
Tryouts will be conducted by Legion staff and are separate from PWYBA. Their evaluation process is independent and differs from ours.
Players not selected for a Jr. Legion team will still be eligible to try out for PWYBA’s 15U program.
Jr. Legion tryout results will have no impact on PWYBA tryouts. Players must complete the full PWYBA tryout process if not placed on a Jr. Legion roster.
Our goal is to ensure players continue to have strong opportunities to develop and compete while staying in the Wayzata baseball community.
What Stays the Same in PWYBA 15U
Many parts of PWYBA 15u baseball are similar to prior years of youth baseball:
What’s Different About 15U Baseball
Some differences that you will notice about 15u baseball:
15U baseball provides a competitive bridge into the Legion program. It complements the high school experience well:
High school freshman baseball runs from mid-March to late May with about a 16-game schedule.
PWYBA 15U runs from late May to late July, with 30–40 games between league and tournament play.
This model allows for focused practice and development in the spring and extensive in-game development during the summer.
Why PWYBA 15U
We believe PWYBA 15U baseball offers a great opportunity for players to continue their development against quality competition in a cost-effective, local program that doesn’t require heavy travel.
Wayzata’s high school program has become one of the strongest in the state, with numerous State Tournament appearances and a State Championship in 2016. That success is built on the foundation laid in PWYBA travel baseball, and we are proud to continue that tradition.
Please look for registration to open around the beginning of the year, and check our website (www.pwyba.com) for tryout dates and winter development program information.
