Dear PWYBA Families,
We are excited and appreciative of the opportunity to get back to baseball this week. We thank you for your outpouring of support that has helped get us to this point. Looking back on the last few months, the easy decision would have been to cancel the Summer baseball season. We continued to hear from you that your kids wanted to play baseball, when and if they could, and that has gotten us to the point we are at today. Organized activities are starting on June 8. Most of our programs are moving forward with practices and we are continuing with the travel team formation process. Much still needs to happen at the State level. We currently understand that baseball is categorized by the State of Minnesota as a Medium Level risk sport and future guidance is still needed on phasing in games. We are excited to see our community ball fields once again have kids running, laughing and practicing baseball. Thank you again for all your patience!
A few updates and reminders:
We are asking that all families fill out a Communicable Disease Waiver in order to play. The waiver can be found using the link below. This waiver needs to be turned into your coach at the start of the first practice. Please print one, fill it out and bring it to your teams first practice. Coaches may have some extra copies if you need to fill one out at the field. For those that will be attending tryouts in the coming week, please bring one to tryouts or we will have a supply there as well.
On our website you will also find our PWYBA 2020 Guidelines for Safe Play. Youth sports associations have been told to meet or exceed the Minnesota Department of Health and CDC safety standards and as a non-profit local youth sports association we take this seriously. As we have updated you before, baseball is going to be different this year and for all our kids to play we are going to have to accept these standards and do our best to follow them. Please have conversations with your kids that help them understand keeping their space and following their coaches’ instructions.
Travel player families. We want to clear up some confusion we have heard on season length. The current plan for practices and tryouts starting now will hopefully phase into a game play season with possible tournament opportunities subject to state approval. That game play season is expected to be July 6 –August 14. We expect our summer season to conclude by August 14th (or earlier if all league games have been scheduled and played). We do not want to conflict with Fall sports. While our season is running longer than normal because of the delayed start, it still is a summer baseball season. Fall baseball opportunities will exist as usual, but that is a separate registration and process.
As a reminder for Travel families that are currently registered to play and would like to opt out of the Summer season, please do so via the following linkhttps://forms.gle/bC2H5bAh17ykYZMH9We have asked for this to be completed by tonight (Sunday June 7), this will allow us to plan upcoming tryouts accordingly and make any adjustments to current teams that may be needed.
Thank you again for all your support and a huge thanks to all our Coaches and volunteers who haveworked tirelessly over the last few months to plan and adjust and make new plans for a season. We are excited to get back to baseball and hope it brings to the kids some happiness, normalcy and friendship interaction. Time to play ball!
