Legion baseball is a full-time commitment for 16 -19 year olds. The season will start immediately after the end of the high school season and will run to the end of July and possibly further depending on playoffs. There will be typically 14-18 players on the roster. Legion plays 10 league games (weekdays) and approximately 4 weekend tournaments. There will also be playoffs at the end of July. This will total somewhere around 30-35 games. Anticipate having either a game or practice every day/night during the season. Weeknight games begin at 6:00 and practices at 4:00**. Weekend game times depend on the tournament. Contact the Senior League Director for eligibility requirements.
The Junior Legion Season starts the day after the High School season ends* (late May or early June) and runs through the end of July. There are typically 14-16 players on the team. Tryouts will be held in late April or early May. The team plays a 16 game regular season league schedule on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in the South Suburban Baseball League. There are 4 weekend tournaments along with a season ending State Tournament. Practices are up to the discretion of the coach but could be around 2 – 3 times per week or more. It is a significant time commitment. Contact the Senior League Director for eligibility requirements.
The Wayzata Senior Babe Ruth baseball team is made up of 12-18 players in the age range of 16-18. The number of league games played is determined by the number of Tier I Senior Babe Ruth teams assigned to the division. Players commit to approximately 2-3 games and 2 practice per week. The regular season begins as soon as possible after the High School season is complete. The earliest the team will start is the last week of May. The start may be postponed depending on the number of Varsity High School players on the team who may still be playing in the High School postseason. The regular season ends July 5th. The post season consists of a playoff of all league teams, with the top two teams heading to the state tournament. Teams placing on the top two in the state tournament go on to regional tournaments. In the Senior Babe Ruth league, games are played under modified National League Baseball rules. There is no DH and no courtesy runners. Senior Babe Ruth is an option for players who are interested in Travel Baseball, yet may not be able to make as much of a time commitment as Legion or Jr. Legion require. The time commitment is still significant, but typically not as much as Legion.
Note for Senior Babe Ruth Eligibility. The player MUST live within the boundaries of school district 284 in order to participate in Wayzata Senior Babe Ruth. Open enrollment is NOT CONSIDERED for Senior Babe Ruth.
The Wayzata Senior Travel Leagues (Jr. Legion, Senior Babe Ruth and Legion) are open to players from multiple high schools. As such the start date for any of these teams may need to be postponed until High School players have completed their commitment to their High School teams. Players should inform the travel team Head Coach of their post season commitments as soon as they can to allow the coach to determine the best starting date and reschedule games if it is deemed necessary
