Clinic Definitions

Arm Velocity for High School Players

**New this year*** PWYBA has teamed up Acceleration NW to run an Arm Velocity Clinic.  Arm strength and proper throwing mechanics are essential for all baseball players. Acceleration's long toss program is designed to address all key aspects of throwing: proper mechanics, shoulder strength and flexibility, proper warm-ups and throwing progressions.  The Arm Velo clinic is an 8 week clinic with 2 sessions per week.  One session is throwing which is on Sundays (Dates: Jan 7, 14, 21, 28, Feb 4, 11, 18, 25) at the CMS Dome and the other session is Strength and Agility Day conducted at the Acceleration Northwest facility.  Strength day is scheduled based on the players availability and availability of Acceleration space.  It is also strongly encouraged for players to purchase an open dome pass, so players can continue arm strength and long toss program on their own during available open dome sessions.

Instructor: Kurt Haring - All Big Ten baseball player at the U of MN and 17 year coaching veteran.

SPACE IS LIMITED:  Minimum of 12 players to run clinic and maximum of 20 players in clinic.

Throwing Day (at CMS Dome):

  • Shoulder Warm-up
  • Throwing Mechanics Drills
  • Long Toss Program

Strength and Agility Day (at Acceleration NW facility)

  • Total Body Warm-Up
  • Agility/Plyometrics (30 mins)
  • Cuff-n-Core/Strength (30 mins)

Make Up Policy

  • No make-ups for missed throwing sessions
  • 1 strength/agility make-up permitted depending on availability

Big League Camp for High School

The Big League Camp I and II is for High School players (9th - 12th graders). Fundamental Baseball Skills are emphasized. The coaches personally work with players on the fundamentals; catch the ball, throw the ball, hit the ball. Work with a specific position attitude towards teaching infielders skills such as footwork and throwing mechanics. Catchers receive instruction on blocking balls, footwork, and throwing. Outfielders focus on pre-pitch movement, catching, first step quickness, routes to fly balls, and throwing mechanics. Hitting instruction includes grip, hands, stance, stride, swing, and balance. Pitchers receive instruction on pitching mechanics, grips and balance.

All BLC participants will go through an skill assessment where metrics will be collected (60 yard dash, home to 1B, Throwing Velocity, Batted Ball Exit Velocity, etc...) for each participant.  These metrics will help players understand how their skills compare to other HS, college, and pro baseball players and also prepare players on what to expect at baseball showcases and college tryouts.

Instructors: Scott Leius, Tim Laudner and their coaching staff
